SAMA

SAMA is a DJ and producer from Utrecht, The Netherlands.

In the past he had released tracks and EP’s on several well-respected labels in the more commercial peak-time side of techno, such as Drumcode, Kraftek and Noir.

When COVID-19 put everything in a big coma, though, he started to realise that he wanted to experiment and grow into a new sound and approach. After two years of mandatory isolation, the first release on his new imprint Maximalist_Minimalist is finally scheduled for May 2022. SAMA’s goal with the imprint is to create a piece of art with every release. To let the music and the visual art create something that really grabs the attention.

His music still has some obvious SAMA-esque sounds and arrangements, accompanied by an almost signature big-room vibe that, however hard he tries, he can’t seem to shake off. With that said, it entails a darker, more metallic and grittier sound with an almost always present sense of urgency to it, while still keeping a big focus on a dark, driving groove. SAMA’s tracks are riddled with small intricacies, a heavy focus on sounddesign and an infinitely perfectionist mindset; a Maximalist approach to a Minimalist sound, if you will.

SAMA has already had the honour of playing high-profile events like The Warehouse Project, Free Your Mind, Loveland Festival and his sets have been heard in many different clubs around Europe. 2022 seems to only add more names to his list of well-respected venues and events, with his debut at Awakenings Festival amongst others.
